Participants should have some basic driving experience before attending Street Smart and be comfortable with the fundamental operation of their vehicle.

No — Street Smart does not provide 6 months off your licence.
However, unlike the programmes that do (which are predominantly theory-based), Street Smart is the only programme in New Zealand that delivers a recognised world-best-practice, hands-on, practical “learn by doing” approach.

Yes, you can attend for two young drivers as the drivers take turns doing the activities with the coach in the front and parent/guardian in the back seat.
It is important you email us on info@streetsmart.org.nz and let us know to ensure that the young drivers are placed in the same group.

We currently run our training days at six different locations around NZ. We do add new locations from time to time - the best way to stay up to date with new locations is by signing up to receive our email updates.

We ask that young drivers use the vehicle they usually drive.
It’s important that you understand the capability of your own car, and how it responds in different situations. That’s why many of the activities on the day are conducted in the car you’re learning to drive in.

Guardians are an important part of the learning journey. Attending means you hear the same advice from our expert coaches and gain practical tips to help support safer driving after the training day.

NZ Police attend to support the training day and help young drivers better understand what happens out on our roads - and what happens if you did happen to get pulled over. They’re there to educate and engage with young drivers - not to catch anyone out.
